So recently I visited my aunt’s place, well in general she is a really nice woman who welcomes me with snacks and gossip, but as soon as I sat in the hall, I could almost smell this muddy like wet cloth smell, to my surprise she didn’t even notice at first instance.

Maybe it’s because of the rainy season around in my country, but I would hate to ever fall in such an awkward situation, for me it with keeping my floors shiny and furniture dust free it is also important that my home smells pleasant once I sit down and relax or welcome my friends.

On doing some research and trying some amazing tips I have found out 10 different ways to make your home smell amazing and fresh for a long time.

10 easy tips to make your home smell amazing and fresh

So there are actually two broad steps to work on the pleasant atmospheric scent of your home, first and foremost is checking if there is already an unpleasant odour inside the house, instead of rashly overlapping the bad odour you have to remove it for a long-lasting effect. Let me explain,

1. Clean your house properly

There are certain areas in your home that will need a more consistent cleaning than the others, specially on the days when clouds are wet, like the kitchen and bathroom, so be active for those areas, throwing out the trash regularly will prevent any kind of bad to spread in the house.

2. Lemon is your friend

When you are done cleaning your sink or garbage area you may not notice but the bad odour remains, in order to feel a fresh vibe in your kitchen while you’re cleaning with cold water add a whole squeezed lemon. This will leave your kitchen with a fresh smell. This is also helpful for cleaning the microwave and refrigerator.

3. Pets are friendly, the odour is not

I own a dog and although my sister has grown tolerant to that ever-pervasive dog smell, I rather choose to manage the smell through a homemade solution to spray on my pet’s clothes and fabrics. It’s really simple to prepare,

Take one tablespoon of baking soda, mix it in a bowl with 40-50 drops of some essential oil, preferably citrus, like orange. And then pour this mixture into a spray bottle filled with 2-3 cups of distilled water.

Now you can use this fresh solution to spray on the fabric or in the air. You will get rid of that smell.

4. Warmth of Camphor

In the rainy season I find it most useful, while some people go for directly burning the camphor I prefer to slowly melt it with heat, this leaves a pungent fresh smell in the air and is also very helpful in removing the insects from the house. You can easily get a camphor diffuser online.

5. Use fragrant Candles

This is one of my favourite ways to alleviate the aura in my home with fragrant smell, not only does it maintain a pleasant smell in your home but as well the light adds up in the beauty of any room with its aesthetic appeal. You can also use it when friends come over for dinner or in the evening to lighten up your mood. Color changing candles are also used by people to enhance the relaxation experience of their guests.

6. Tokens of smell

If you distribute the smell all over the house you don’t need to go through the hassle of an everyday ritual; simply put some fragrant sachets in drawers, on the study table, and hang on the inside doorways of the house.

7. Flowers are everlasting solution

Most fragrances are naturally derived from flowers, that’s why they are the best source for fragrant that will last longer, not only that it also alleviates the beauty of your room. In case you have you can directly harvest fresh fragrant flowers. Fill the vase of your rooms with flowers, you can also prepare potpourri for yourself at home.

8. Room sprays are instant solution

When guests are about to show up or on special occasions, resorting to instant solutions is smart and room sprays are considerably the best option for that. Although choosing the certain smell is really important as to what goes with your home and preference of your family and certain occasion. I personally prefer sprays with subtle fragrance like sandalwood, it balances the odour and keeps the house fresh without challenging anyone’s preference.

9. Baking soda will save the carpet

Baking soda works best for removing unfriendly odours, you can simply sprinkle them on rug or carpet for a few minutes. I generally live it overnight and after that vacuum it properly to remove any trace of it.

10.  Breath of your kitchen

It is a very smart technique actually to utilize the waste while creating a fragrant air in the kitchen. Use the peels of the citrus fruits that you are consuming, then add these to a pot of water and make it simmer for a while, your kitchen will soon be breathing like a garden of citrus fruits.
