He has left his legacy for future generations through the structures he has built, such as the Masjid-i Imam Mosque in Isfahan, Iran, an example of its beauty. When we see its artwork, it becomes very difficult to take our eyes off it. The Imam Mosque attracts people with its beauty and attractive colors. This was built by Abbas the Great.

History of Masjid I Imam

Whenever we want to know about any building, its history plays an important role. You know that Masjid-i Imam is known by different names like The Shah Mosque, Royal Mosque, and Imam Mosque. When Shah Abbas had to change his capital in 1598, he made Isfahan his new capital and started its development works.

And at that time, the Persian Gulf was an important trading route. Thus, its spiritual, cultural, and economic development started. In 1611, the construction of Masjid-i Shah was started by Shah Abbas’s rule, which was completed in 1630 by Shah Sufi Abbas, the successor who contributed to the development of Raj Path and Isfahan from 1629 to 1642.

The work of Masjid-i Imam was completed in 1930.  In Masjid-i Imam, marbles were also embedded in it in 1938. Ali Akbar Isfahani was the architect or engineer of this unique and wonderful monument. This mosque has been made so wonderfully that the beholder can see it, and the logically precise and inventive use of colored tiles in it has increased its beauty, which is unique and makes it a unique place in the world. That is why it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979.

Architecture

Let’s know about the construction of this amazing monument. What makes each mosque different from the other is its minaret; Masjid-i Imam has four. A large marble table on the southwest wall facing Mecca is 10ft tall and 3 ft wide. Which is also attractive. The most attractive and mind-blowing thing about the mosque is its beautiful and eye-catching dome.

The dome of Masjid-i Imam was completed in 1629 and is 53 meters (174 ft) high, making it the tallest in the city. This dome is double-shelled with 14 meters spanning between the two layers and resting on an octagonal dome chamber. Masjid-i Imam was a huge structure in which 18 million bricks and 475,000 tiles were used in its construction. Thus, it is a unique example of a very amazing and large construction.

It is a very attractive mosque in Iran, which, just by looking at it, gives the eyes a feeling of peace and wonder.
