John Harold Force is an American NHRA drag racer, who is a 16-time NHRA and 1-time AHRA Funny Car champion driver and a 22-time champion car owner. He owns John Force Racing(JFR). John Force is one of the most dominant drag racers with 157 career victories. He has been a significant figure in the world of motorsports for decades. John Force suffered from polio when he was a child, but he survived due to his family’s perseverance and therapy. As a child, he lived in logging camps, migration farms, Indian reservations, and trailer parks. He graduated from Bell Gardens High School. He played football in high school and college while attending Cerritos College.
John Force Family and Early Life
John Force was born on May 4, 1949, in the Los Angeles suburb of Bell Gardens, California, to Harold Force and Betty Ruth Force. He comes from a big family. He has five siblings, four of whom are older than him and one younger: Walker, Louie, Tom(now deceased), Cindy Hem, and a younger sibling Dana Marino.
He married Laurie Force in 1981 and had three daughters, who also followed in his footsteps as a racer. They are Ashley Force Hood, Brittany Force, and Courtney Force. He also has an eldest daughter from his previous marriage, Adria Hight, who is now the CFO of JFR(John Force Racing).
His Achievements and Awards
John Force has had great success as a racer. In 2008, he was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. In 1996, a national panel of motorsports journalists selected him as “Driver of the Year” for all of American motor racing. He is the first drag racer to receive this honor. He is the first driver to have 100 wins, and as of June 2021, he has won 153 final rounds in 259 races.
John Force is the first driver to set an official NHRA Funny Car elapsed time under five seconds in the quarter mile. He is also the 16-time NHRA champion driver and 21-time champion owner. He and Ashley are the first father/daughter pair to compete against each other in the first NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta in 2008, and Ashley won that race. He is the only driver who won more than ten championships in his division. He also beat the record that once was held by retired NHRA Pro Stock Champion Bob Glidden, who had 10 championships.
John Force has received the Lee Iacocca Award at Bristol Dragwat on June 19, 2012. In 1984, he received an AHRA Funny Car Champion, and in 1985, he received an ADRA Funny Car WORLD FINALS Championship. In the years 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2013, he won NHRA Funny Car Championship. In years 2003, 2009, 2017, 2019, and 2024he won NHRA Champion Owner(Funny Car), and in years 2017, and 2022, he won NHRA Champion Owner(Top Fuel).
