Islamic Center of Washington | A Hub for Worship, Community & Culture

There are various religions in the world, out of which 11 main religions are prevalent. Thus, various religions have their own rules, qualities, importance, and practices, which help in the development of human beings and their understanding, keeping them in the rules and regulations. That is why they are considered among the primary foundations of society. Thus, the development of various religions becomes important, for which religious centers play an important role. Today, we know of one such Islamic center, the Islamic Center of Washington.

History of Islamic Center of Washington

The Islamic Center of Washington’s history began in 1948, when Egypt appointed Kamil Abdul Rahim as the Egyptian ambassador to the United States. After that, it was decided to build a mosque in the United States capital, and a committee was formed that played a major role in the foundation of the mosque. The committee visited various Muslim countries and also visited various mosques. And it started collecting solid funds and also received assistance.

Howar and other Muslim Diplomats provided funding for the initial construction of the Islamic Center of Washington. In 1948, Hower laid the foundation stone of the mosque and inaugurated the work of the mosque.

Various countries also sent various items for the mosque that increased the construction and beauty of the mosque, such as Iran sent Persian rugs. Turkey sent tiles and its experts to install them.  And the building was designed by Italian architect Mario Rossi. The mosque was completed in 1954 and was opened on June 28, 1957, by President Dwight Eisenhower.

Current Significance

The Islamic Center of Washington has become a center of attraction for people. Many dignitaries have come there and experienced the peace and grandeur there, such as President George W. Bush, who also came on September 17, 2001. In 2015, many Muslim movements, politicians, and even a declaration of reform were held there, which was against terrorism.

Thus, this Islamic center has become an important center. The mosque not only has a prayer hall, but also classrooms, a library, and various facilities. Islam and the Arabic language are taught in the Islamic center. Thus, the Islamic Center of Washington remains active through various activities.

The Islamic Center of Washington is an important and unique Islamic center in the United States. It helps society through various activities. Thus, such centers remain a blessing for the individual and the society. The Islamic religion has been developing through various centers and has been increasing its influence.
