Eric Samuel Andrē is an American comedian, actor, TV host, writer, producer, and musician. He was born on April 4, 1983. I really loved his role as Deke, one of Max’s boyfriends. He was really expressive, and sarcastic, and his humor really fit well with Max’s dry humor, and their characters were perfect for each other. He had such great comedic timing, (spoiler alert!)  I was a little sad when they broke up.

He was best known as the creator and host of the “The Eric Andre Show”, an adult swim surreal comedy series. The show ran from 2012 to 2023. Some of the other roles include Mike on Man Seeking Woman, an FXX comedy show which ran from 2015 to 2017, and Luci, on Disenchantment, which ran from 2018 to 2023, a Netflix series. He was also a voice actor, who was the voice of Azizi in the remake of The Lion King(2019), and Stuart ‘rampage’ Clarke in the Marvel miniseries Ironheart.

Andrē performs under the stage name BLARF. It was a musical side project of his, which in the early 2000s was a band with unnamed members, though they quickly disbanded. However, in 2014, he revived the name as a solo act, and he has released a collaborative EP, and in 2019, has released an album Cease & Desist through Stones Throw Records

Early Life and Relationships

Eric Andrē was born in Boca Raton, Florida, and his mother is an American of Ashkenazi Jewish descent from the Upper West Side of New York, and his father was an Afro-Haitian immigrant who worked as a psychiatrist. In 2001, Andrē graduated from Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida. He then studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he played double bass and in 2005, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree.

Andrē dated actress Rosario Dawson from 2016 to 2017. He was in a relationship with a woman he met at the farmer’s market in 2021, and he said that she didn’t know he was famous until after they were dating.

In a 2016 interview, Andrē talked about his view on sexuality, and said that he thinks everyone is bi, and that sexual orientation, race or gender are all obsolete man made concepts.

Struggles in the Beginning

Andrē talked about the struggles he went through during his climb to success. During an interview with PEOPLE, he recalled about the time in New York City one summer when he was low on cash, that he became homeless. He says that he would go up on stage and ask people if he can sleep at their house. He remembers how he used to sleep in the park for a few nights, and he would only have enough money for either dinner or whiskey.

He talks about how the whole situation was a nightmare, how he would try and find safe parks to sleep in and wake up at 5 am terrified. He recalls sleeping in Union Square or St. Vartan Park in Murray Hill. He had toothbrushes all over town.

He talked about how he worked a number of odd jobs to make ends meet, including working as a waiter for three days, he admits that he was the worst waiter in the history of restaurants, having no idea what he was doing, stating that he lied on his rēsumē, saying that he worked as a waiter for seven years.

Andrē also worked for a dog daycare business. He would drive dogs around in a van, and sad he earned seven dollars an hour, like the guy from Dumb and Dumber. He said it was a downright nightmare, how he would have to convince the dogs that he wasn’t a robber, and when they finally when they stop trying to kill him, he would take the dog to leave in the dog van, where ten other dogs are already there, clearly having a rough time, vomiting, attacking the other dog, and actively trying to jump into the traffic.

He also added how he would constantly get sick, with having to deal with that many dogs, he would rub his nose, and forget he did, and would end up with an allergy attack.

Achievements

Andrē has come a long way, in spite of his early struggles. He has received two Emmy nominations for The Eric Andre Show this year, one for outstanding performer in the short form comedy or drama series which he won, and another for outstanding short form comedy, drama or variety series. He said he threw up from the excitement, and he was over the moon.
