He purchased the property in 1969 and it has served as Nicholson’s primary residence for many years. The home is approximately 3,303 square feet and is situated on a half-acre lot giving the homeowner both privacy and spectacular views of Los Angeles.

The couple initially purchased the investment property for $555,000 — evidently a statement of value even back at that time. The residence is about 7,900 square feet and has six bedrooms, making it an ideal spot for hosting guests during ski season in Aspen. The property maintains its historic charm with original woodwork, stained glass windows, and architectural details from that time period.
Although the property is over 100 years old, it has been very well kept up and updated to include contemporary amenities without sacrificing its historic charm. One of the most appealing features of the Newberry House is its proximity to downtown Aspen, allowing access to the local cultural and food scenes while at the same time providing a serene location in the surrounding mountains for the tranquil backdrop in which to enjoy the home. In 2013, Nicholson sold the Newberry House, now exquisitely renovated by Ellen Bronfman Hauptman and Andrew Hauptman for $11 million.
Malibu Property
Nicholson also owned an expansive estate in Malibu, California, that consists of 28 acres of land. The estate was located on a ridge that looked out on the Pacific ocean and the rugged mountains that define much of the Malibu landscape. The grounds of the estate were spacious with various recreational and relaxing amenities. Included on site were a basketball court and a tennis court, which matched Nicholson’s known interest in sports.
Along with the pools, spas, and other resorts-style amenities, the property also came with a thoughtfully manicured putting green for leisurely practice. The main estate included guest houses to put visitors up in. Nicholson listed the estate in Malibu for ¥4.25 million in 2021.
